Hello Oppo, I bought something fun!
2005 Legacy GT Limited with a 5 speed.
It was one of the few options that ticked all the necessary options for me: Fun, manual trans, room for the kiddos, decent power, and rather cheap (Got a big project coming to replace that Tbird).
Now I just need to figure out everything that the previous owner did to it. I already know it has a full 3in exhaust and muffler deletes, so it’s loud as all hell (that’s the first thing that’ll be changed).

Another LGT owner, welcome and congratulations!

Looks like they lost the grille.

We have a 2.5i Leggy and both my wife and I complain all the time that we shoulda gotten the GT. Congrats!

That they did. Gives me the chance to put in my own custom honecomb or mesh grill.

an excellent choice for family car. The wheels are not my style.

No manual option, and I just wasn’t that impressed by it. Felt like a great option if I could accept an auto and wanted something a bit more “sensible” than a 10 year old questionably modified Subaru, but I’m crazy like that (when my wife lets me).

I like the looks, not a fan of how they stick out and the tires stretched to fit, so they’ll be on their way after I get the exhaust sorted.

Welcome to the club! I hope you got it compression tested and did a leak down test on it. They are known for the piston ringlands cracking as well as failed turbos due to clogged banjo bolts. Also do not launch the car the 5 speed is pretty fragile. If you need advice with anything feel free to hit me up.

And found a set of hideous wheels

Always been a big Legacy GT fan.
But yeah, those wheels need to go. Are they XXRs?

Thanks!
Sadly, no compression or leak down test done before, and I don’t really know any service records either (it would be due for a timing belt if it hasn’t already been done, so I need to figure that out), but it runs beautifully and doesn’t seem to be abused, so I took the chance.
No worries about launching it, it’s my commuter, not a track car, and I’m not a fan of replacing clutches either.

SWEET! even opted for the dual cupholders!

Certainly looks like the XXR 553
Looks like they don’t come any narrower than 8in, which would explain the stretched tires.

Yeah, I’m pretty sure XXRs are only allowed to have stretched tires. ;)
I swear just about hard parker with a Toyobaru has XXRs with stretched tires. It’s awful.
You know what’d look great on your car, some Advan RGIIs or Volk RE30s. ;)

I do not disagree my friend. I like the looks, hate how they fit.

So jealous! Awesome car.

I like those volks, but sheesh, they aren’t cheap.
I might try for the bronze look, I like the black and bronze combination.

Yeah, used market is definitely your best bet. Keep an eye on NASIOC, so many good deals on wheels can be found there. Checking out FT86club.com’s Classified Wheels section wouldn’t be a bad idea either, as the Toyobarus and older WRXs/Legacys share the same bolt pattern.
My brother had a JBP blobeye WRX wagon with Black Racing knock-off RGIIs in bronze, and it looked great.

How about this reason: We already have an Edge, which is like a jacked up Fusion Sport wagon

Ah, good tips there, I never would have thought to check out GT86 wheels. Thanks!

No problem!
I cross-check FS threads on NASIOC all the time. I’m actually running OEM bugeye WRX wheels for my winters.

Awesome choice! Gotta love Leggy GT’s! I still wish I got one two summers ago. It was a dark grey 2009 with 21,000 miles on it! It was an automatic, though.

Fair enough! lol

My younger brother has one with a fully-built engine, and the thing is crazy quick. Stock size turbo still, and it’s just awesome. I have the Outback Wagon version, and it’s also a ton of fun. Good choice.

Check if the uppipe has a cat. If it does, replace uppipe. Also be sure to replace the oil with full synthetic every 3,000 miles. LegacyGT.com has a lot of other suggestions on things to do for reliability and preventative maintenance.
Also, Nameless exhaust and some bronze Method Race Wheels.

Personally I like the wheels. They don’t stick out past the fenders and they fill the wheel wells up. The tires are a little too stretched that is for sure, but I’ve seen much worse. A different sized tire will take care of that. Unless you lower the car you shouldn’t have clearance issues. It looks like the tires still have plenty of side wall as they sit. I know XXR wheels aren’t the most expensive, well made, or lightest wheel out there, but they are affordable and look good. I ran a set on my Miata for 5 years with NO issues. I was very happy with them and I got compliment on them all the time. Unless you plan on tracking this thing, then I’d keep them.

If they said BBS on the side I bet you’d be thinking different.

The pic doesn’t show it well, but the wheels did stick outside the fenders, very noticably on the front. The tires were stretched to fit the wide wheels, and were horrible tires for traction, ride comfort and protecting the rims (I blame the stretch for most of that). New tires might have helped, but I instead traded the XXRs for a set of stock BRZ wheels and tires. They aren’t as flashy, but they’re better everywhere else.
Id rather have a slightly more comfortable ride than the flasheist rims. I have a separate project car to get attention.
